Indian History

Indian History is comprised of many distinct cultures,which existed over millenia,and as such,it is difficult to put together a coherent. A lot of what what we know about Indian history comes from British historians. India was not one unified place it had many principalities and city states. India experienced indigenous political unity twice,first under the Maurya_Empire in 321-185 BCE,and again in the Gupta dynasty C. 320-550 CE. The Vedas is the earliest text, it is also the start of Hinduism. The Caste System is India's enduring and fascinating institutions. The Buddha's thinking was very attractive if you were a Hindu because there was no caste system.
